POLITICS

I have always thought politics encompassed everything because sadly the government is so much a part of our lives. To say you are not interested in politics to me says you are not interested in being in control of your own life. I once had a professor say there is hardly anything in your life that some aspect of government is not part of. Think of your day...if you sleep on a mattress there are regulations on what type of material it is made of, if you have an alarm clock with a radio it is regulated by the FCC, the food you have for breakfast is regulated by the FDA, the street you drive/walk/ride on is regulated by your city, and who can count how many regulations go into the car you drove. Your place of employment is covered by numerous agencies, the building you work in, the company you work for, and if you have go to public school others decide what you should learn, what you should eat, how you should play and the list goes on and on. I myself am tired of this nanny state and it is getting worse. The city of Los Angeles has barred new construction of fast food restaurants, are they going to pay the difference for the people who are looking for affordable food? Fast food restaurants do have healthier choices, you do not have order a triple cheeseburger with fries and a shake. It is not the the job of the government to tell people what restaurants they can eat at, you should be responsible for your choices, good or bad. When the anti-smoking fascists started there were warnings food was next and they said "do not be ridiculous," but here it is. The government already controls so much of our lives, what is next? When you are deciding who to vote for or even deciding whether not to vote please make sure you think about what impact your choice will make. Not voting is yet again allowing other people to make choices for you, and when you are deciding on a candidate think about what I believe Thomas Jefferson said; a government powerful enough to give you everything is strong enough to take everything away.
