Tiller vs. Rhoeder

It has taken me awhile to comment on the shooting of George Tiller, mostly due to the fact that I did not want to sound as though I condone what happened. However I just read Ann Coulter's commentary "49 Million to Five," and it gave me the courage to say what I really think. What Scott Rhoeder did was against the law so it was wrong. What Tiller did was maybe not against the law but it was more than just wrong, it was morally abhorrent. Tiller being killed does not change what he dedicated his life to. What Rhoeder did also does not change what the pro-life movement is about; the promotion and protection of life. What Rhoeder did in a single act was wrong but it was not as wrong as the thousands of evil acts committed by Tiller. By saying this I do not approve of what Rhoeder did but it is the truth, the thousands of innocent lives taken by Tiller had no "choice" in being aborted, but Tiller chose his path, and you reap what you sow

Pay for Performance

Again unions are fighting for things that are completely against the foundations of this country. In reading the bargaining updates for the CWA with AT & T, the website states the union rejects the Company's proposal of Pay for Performance. This is because the union rejects anything they see as not fair. A while back employees who had perfect attendance through the year were given gift certificates to local restaurants or movie tickets, this was gotten rid of by the union, because it was not fair to those who had to miss work. I have made comparisons with unions and communism, I would just compare it with socialism if it was not for the forceful intimidation that union leaders like to use. The above is just another reason why this is not a difficult comparison to make. In a free enterprise capitalist system there are incentives to be more productive. In a socialist system it does not matter what you do or how well you do it, the outcome will be the same. That is why in general union workers as with government workers are less productive as a whole. Not to say all government and union workers are not productive but those who are the most productive are brought down by those who are not, therefore on average there is less productivity. Pay for Performance is just one more thing the Union Leaders will not stand for because they would no longer have jobs.

Is California a Lost Cause?

Every day I turn on the news I hear one more reason to say goodbye to California. This makes me very sad as a native Californian. I was born and raised in California as were both my parents, and my maternal Grandmother. My boys were born here as well and I assumed the tradition would go on. However I am afraid I may have to say goodbye. I do not want to give up and leave, because that is part of the problem. The last few years California has actually seen it's population go down. When asked why people leave, there are various reasons, the taxes, the public schools, the illegal aliens, the cost of living and so on. These are very important issues to me as well but at what point do we say it is a lost cause? Can we ever get back to normalcy or are we so over run by special interests? Between the open border crowd, the climate change crowd, the pro-union crowd there is no room for the conservative Christian middle class crowd. Who is standing up for us? I want to stand up for us and fight for my state, but I think many people are so apathetic and disillusioned they think one person can not change. We are so busy working and raising our kids that we do not have time to go protest every other thing, and we are so busy that so much is slipping away. More and more of our income is being taken away, and thus more of our freedoms. I want to scream from the mountain tops but I have to go take my son to school.

How Much Longer am I Useful?

A man with cancer in the state of Oregon was told the state would no longer pay for his treatment but they would pay for his suicide. Yes this is anecdotal but it also is telling of a society whose values are out of whack. With all this talk of stimulus and more government control over our lives, I wonder how much longer I will be considered valuable in this society. I have a chronic illness, I need bi monthly treatments, and daily medication. If not for this I probably would have died ten years ago. My doctors told me up until about thirty years ago those with my illness died within two years of diagnosis. I have health care through my husband's employer for now but when the union bankrupts them, and the government bankrupts private sector health care companies, and I have to go on government controlled health care at what point will the government decide it would be cheaper for me to die? At what point in the name of economic stimulus am I no longer useful? Our practicing Catholic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi wanted family planning as part of the stimulus because it would save the states money. I assume she meant less babies would be born, so how is it any different to promote euthanasia, actually not even euthanasia because that assumes the person wants to die. We need more babies born to work to support all these government programs we do not need sick people. Democrats always use scare tactics such as saying the elderly will have to eat dog food, minorities will be lynched, and women will have to get back alley abortions if Republicans are in office. In the next election cycle how about "Vote Republican or Die, Literally" or has that already been used?

Who's Money Is It?

A few weeks ago on This Week with George Stephanopoulos congressman Barney Frank said people do not volunteer to fight sexually transmitted diseases therefore it is a job and therefore has reason to be part of the "stimulus" package. Between porn masters Larry Flynt and Joe Francis requesting to be part of the stimulus package and now Frank thinking anything that is a job should be a part of the stimulus we should all say hello to not only government cheese but government porn and family planning. This man who was in charge of one of the biggest government regulated disasters in history thinks we should regulate even more. He actually even says that no regulations was the problem. As it has been said before just because you call a dog a cow does not make it a cow. You can call money given to those who do not pay taxes a tax cut but it does not make it so. Government oversight and quasi regulation is the biggest scam in the world. This is the governments way of forcing bad policy without getting their hands dirty. Tax cuts do not fight fires but apparently less syphilis does. I have been STD free my entire life, should I get a rebate for that? Actually I guess since my husband and I actually pay federal income tax we are selfish to want to get any of our money back. This month I have to pay the California DMV seven hundred dollars in car registration fees and my two thousand dollar tax refund from the same state is being delayed. Yet the state is asking to be part of the bail out to further give benefits and services to those who do not pay any taxes. I will end this rant with a quote I heard today, I found it very fitting during this time especially. "The government cannot give to anyone anything that it does not first take from someone else."

Wal-Mart is at Fault for Ills of Society

I guess Wal-Mart haters have reached a new low, it is now Wall -Mart's fault that people have no respect or even an ounce of humanity in them, that they do not give even a second look to a man on the floor being trampled to death. Anybody who does not find this entire situation deeply troubling is deeply troubled. I was already disgusted by this man being killed by people who wanted a good deal on things they do not need with money they do not have then I read an this article by Ann Zimmerman in the Wall Street Journal, "Wal-Mart Assailed on Death". It starts off with Wal-Mart should have better crowd control and that there is already a lawyer for the for the victim's family. Of course the family’s lawyer wants Wal-Mart to be at fault because there is no money in suing a private person or persons who are actually responsible. Reading this article my dismay quadrupled, the only people at fault for this incident are the customers who shoved their way in to the Long Island store that morning. This incident exemplifies so many problems with this society, lack of personal responsibility, un wavering materialism, selfishness and inhumanity. Would they have noticed if it was a dog they were stampeding? The idea that Wal-Mart is responsible for a greedy disgusting mob murdering one of its employees, I think adds even more insult to this man's death.

Again We Are Lost (Where Have all the Babies Gone?)

I had thought that we were moving towards a different view on abortion in this country. I believed with technology when one could see the beating heart of a child at seven weeks gestation one would see that as a living growing being not to be destroyed. However our elected leadership ignore the facts and have complete disregard for the unborn. Our new leadership fights against true choice. Real choice can only occur with full information and disclosure, but they do not want women seeking abortions to have any information that may dissuade them from getting an abortion. I find it disgusting that there are people who fight against women getting information about the side effects mentally and physically of abortion. Not to mention they are some of the people who now want pictures of a "Smokers' lungs" on cigarette packs. Why don't they put pictures of aborted babies on abortion doctors' smocks? Now there is news of the availability for Planned Parenthood gift certificates for the holidays. I thought that gift certificates for plastic surgery was the lowest our society would go but clearly not. Now Obama’s people are also counting the days until they can spend tax payer money to destroy embryos. We are supposed to be so enlightened but we can not see the darkness of destroying the young and innocent. What is becoming of our humanity?

Abortionites

I am having a hard time getting my mind wrapped around the abortion by anybody, at any time at any cost crowd. I can not believe with the technology today anybody could think it was not a life one is destroying. I do not know what is worse if the people who voted for Obama did not know his record on abortion, or if they just did not care. I have talked to people who say they are "very" pro-life but still voted for Obama, because they are not one issue voters. I am not either but how can they with good conscience support a man who was not even willing to save a child born despite the mother and doctors attempt to kill it. Even non-religious people should see something wrong with that. I was listening to Laura Ingraham today and she was talking about an abortion doctor who after thousands of abortions had a crisis of conscience and decided it was wrong. What is unbelievable is that there were people out there who in turn wanted to destroy him for changing his mind. How is it considered radical to not want to kill unborn children? Should it not be considered radical to let a baby die in a dumpster because the mother decided she did not want to have it? I have been told I should be able to understand both sides of an issue, but I can not. With other issues sometimes there are good intentions behind it, like the old saying if you are under thirty and a conservative you have no heart, if you are over thirty and a liberal than you have no brain. There is no heart behind pro-abortionists, there are no good intentions, only selfish heartless ideals. I am very concerned with the judges who will be nominated over the next four years. I am even more concerned about the amount of children who will not have the opportunity to make any choices.

My Baby is American Made

There has been a lot of talk lately about loyalty over cost. Well I for one can say I would but American first unless there was a significant difference in price or quality. In regards to cars, I have owned both foreign and domestic but I probably will continue to buy American made as long as I am buying larger vehicles. I wish our nation could decide what we are. We can not say the free market failed in our current economic situation when the government was involved in all that failed. If banks had been allowed to only give loans to those who showed they could afford the payments and had built their credit trustworthiness then most would not have failed. They say credit unions have not been affected so much by the mortgage crisis, that is because they can be choosy when they give loans. Now the new "bailout" the government is talking about is Detroit. The failings of Detroit are not just bad business, it is the government telling them what kind of cars they must make, and the unions forcing wages and benefits even when they can not afford it. I have said it before and I will say it again, regulation should be all or nothing, you can not continuously interfere and then say the free market failed. Unions are the biggest hindrance to the free market, it stifles innovation and hard work. When there is no incentive to do better than your co-workers you do not. America is supposed to be about striving for excellence, doing better than your parents, not meritocracy. If we allow for innovation and do not punish prosperity maybe American made can mean something great again.

Teach the Children

Even during the times of Clinton I disliked the bumper stickers "Don't Blame Me, I Voted for Bush." I was too young for that election, I first voted for President in 1996 for Dole, but the bumper stickers seemed disrespectful. Now as a parent I am trying to explain the difference between disagreement and disrespect. I do not agree with the views in which Obama has espoused but he is going to be our President in just a few months so I took my McCain bumper sticker down after the election. At my 1st graders school they had a mock election and I was very bothered by what some of his fellow students said. One kid said McCain was a bad person because he was selfish. I had to tell myself that clearly he was just repeating what his parents had told him and he did not understand what he was saying. It is unbelievable to me someone would tell their six-year-old that a war hero, a man who has acted in the most self-less way imaginable, is a bad person. Then another child after the election told my son Obama was a bad President, again repeating what his parents told him. I think the idea of an elementary school having a mock presidential election is ridiculous since they can no way decide for themselves based on the issues. Especially when it was not even a true election because there was not even a secret ballot, I guess that is the way many liberal teachers wish elections could be. Now I am having a hard time explaining to my son that although we did not vote for Obama he is going to be our President, and the office of the President deserves respect. If not we are just as bad as the liberals who said the most awful things imaginable about Bush and Cheney. What are we teaching our children?

DISAPPOINTED TO SAY THE LEAST

I have to say I am disappointed this day. I keep hearing conservative principles won, maybe so but more people voted for an admitted drug user who hung out more than once with people that wanted to hurt Americans than voted for a man who almost died for Americans. Being good looking and articulate won over character and content. I realize I am conservative and listen to and read more balanced news but did they just ignore all the information about Obama or did they not care? I definitely think we have to reorganize and see what went wrong. I will support our next President but it was bad enough the press let him slide through the election, I will be very concerned if they do not scrutinize his decisions once elected. Please everyone report news good or bad. I find it interesting that October was the first month where there were no casualties on Baghdad, where was that on the news? If it was not for McCain, Iraq would have been a failure. If Obama is successful I want to know but when he fails it is equally important to report. Our first amendment failed us greatly this election. One of the basics of journalism is being objective, if the press is invested in a candidate there is nobody to point out what needs to be changed. Where were the reporters? Oh that is right they were investigating a plumber.

Expereince Very Important to Democrats?

The same people who touted the Clintons, think experience matters. Experience I guess only matters now when it comes to the second in line for President, not the President. Being Governor of Arkansas when it was one of least educated, poorest, unhealthiest states in the union but has crack heads is experience but being Governor of Alaska is not. There is no reality in Alaska because it has no "crack heads" according to Sean Combs. I will start calling him P Diddy when I start going by P Lo. I will not stray from my topic to go over the absurdity of that. Next they said being the wife of a President is experience enough to be a United States Senator. I know this comparison has been made before but honestly would you trust a heart surgeon's spouse to perform a triple bypass solely because during pillow talk they discussed surgery? The Democrats like to say Palin was only mayor of a small town but since we call her governor there is obviously more to her experience thatn that, while Obama has been running for President she has actually been running a state. But I guess this comes from the same guy who thinks singing up for the Selective Service is the same as joining the armed forces. Now I am not saying experience is the only thing that matters, because especially when it comes to political office sometimes experience creates the opposite affect, you may start off wanting to change the world and end up hiding thousands of dollars in your freezer. But when the Democrats can not shut up about Palin not being experienced but when it comes to Obama, it is off the table it either matters or it does not. I know the Democrats will say the same thing to Republicans but I would have to say Palin has more diverse experience, more commanding experience, than Obama, so if you want a resume contest, bring it on.

Tax Code Common Sense

Why is it that we still have politicians thinking taxing the rich can grow the economy. In watching Obama on the O'Reilly factor last night I could not believe it when he said "if I can afford it, why not pay more." Well to that I say go ahead and pay more on your taxes but do not force me to. Taxing success is not going to help anyone. You have people who work less because they do not want to move up a tax bracket. Is it not common sense to think that is bad for the economy? People should think the harder they work, the more they make the better, not the other way around. As O'Reily attempted to point out, if you tax capital gains people will invest less, that is just common sense. But what about punishing those who work hard and do well? The way our system is now the middle class gets the brunt of everything. There are so many tax breaks and benefits for those under a certain income level, that if you are middle class it as though you make less. Case and point, I make my 1st graders lunch every day, if I was to have him buy lunch at school it would cost me $495 for the entire year. Yet someone who makes less and does not have to pay for their kids lunch saves $495 per child. Then you move on to utilities where they get breaks so there is no incentive to use less energy because they can use twice as much as me and pay the same amount. I set my thermostat at 79 degrees in the summer, not because I do not want to make the planet warmer but because I do not want to have a thousand dollar electric bill. Those are just a few examples of the unfairness of the system. Liberals try to say the system is tipped to the rich, which in some cases is true but our tax code is definitely tipped to the poor. Taxes that they consider regressive are really a misnomer. It is a fair tax because everyone is taxed the same regardless of how much or how little they make. For example liberals like to say a flat sales tax is regressive, but since food is not taxed, the extras are and the more you make the more you are going to spend on extras. Regardless of all else our tax code should not punish prosperity, the government should be a boost not a hindrance to our success.

This Week with Obama

I have been watching Obama on This Week with George Stephanopoulos and I can not believe what I am hearing. First he discusses tax cuts, tax cuts are welfare if they go to people who do not pay taxes. It is tax relief if it actually allows working Americans to keep their money. Does this guy have any clue about how the economy works, he wants to build the economy from the bottom up. That is ridiculous, every dollar that someone has and spends, grows our economy tenfold. Charity is at its highest when taxes are at its lowest. This is the clear difference between candidates, McCain wants the American people to spend their money however they want, and Obama wants to take our money and spend it however he wants. Next he moves on to National Security experience, somehow Obama thinks voting present on legislation and picking Joe Biden as Vice President is National Security experience but being a Governor of a state that borders another country and being in charge of the National Guard is not. But this comes from a man who thinks running for office grants him more executive experience than being Mayor of a city, I guess he decided to skip over that while he has been running for President she has been a Governor for two years. Last week when discussing Palin he said he said his campaign budget was more than the city of Wasilla for which Palin was Mayor which again reiterates his equating of running for president as experience. In regards to Palin he also says McCain would really show he was for change if he had picked Lieberman as VP. I am so tired of hearing about Lieberman, I am glad he is right on the war but Lieberman is wrong on almost everything else, he is still a Democrat. How is it cow toeing to the right wing by picking a Republican for the Republican ticket and not a Democrat. Why didn't Obama pick Chuck Hagel? Is he giving in to the Democrats by picking a Democrat? This notion is so ridiculous I feel stupid even writing about it. Moving on, when asked if he ever thought about joining the armed forces and if not why, Obama proceeded to compare signing up for the Selective Service in 1979 (which was the law) and knowing people who were part of military families as the same as joining the armed forces. I do not know if he does not understand the questions or he just has set things he says to anything with certain key words. Throughout the interview he does not seem to actually answer the questions asked. He was also asked how what he would do as President that would break from the Democrat party. He said he would support charter schools which the teachers unions have proposed. Since when do unions and especially teachers unions separate themselves from the Democrat party? He also discusses his non-view on abortion which I will discuss further next time because that in itself deserves its own discussion. Obama says he needs to make the choice clear to the American people between himself and McCain, that can only help the Republicans.

Pro Life?

I have always been pro-life. I clearly remember barely knowing what makes a baby and thinking that the unborn child deserved protection. I remember arguing with various family members and friends about the government's "Control" over our bodies. I did not need anybody telling me what was clear, once an egg is fertilized there is a life and it is wrong to destroy said life for selfish reasons. The job of the government is to protect the innocent. When I heard the other day that Barack Obama said he could not answer the question of when life begins, that it is above his pay grade, I wanted to scream. How can you not step up and say what you really believe. You either think it is a life or you do not. Whatever your values are, at least have honesty as one of them, let the voters decide if their values are aligned with yours. But to not even have the guts to say what he thinks, shows he is not ready to lead, he is so afraid of not pleasing everyone he can not really say anything without having it written for him. This great speaker is only that when he is prepared way ahead of time and even then his words never have any meaning. Show us you can lead because clearly if you can not answer a basic question, not what you know but what you think/feel, you are not. You are a commander not a celebrity, it is not your job to be adored, it is to be respected. Do you think an unborn child has human rights? I do and I did not have to wait to find out who I could please the most by thinking this way. Once an egg is fertilized a zygote has DNA, which decides if it is a boy or girl if its eyes are blue or brown, in less than a few weeks it has a heart beat that you can see. I did not graduate from Harvard but I can at least say a DNA and a beating heart signifies life.
